Music Feature Friday: Nightly

If you have a music radar for ones to watch, Nightly should be on it.

The band’s name comes from textspeak and translates to “night, love you.” Members Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta said the inspiration for the name came from the thought that the phrase was a good summary of everything they’d written so far. They wanted to be honest and personal and they liked the idea of texting someone, “Night, love you.” So they shortened it to “Nightly.”

Their sound is a sweet mix of alternative and pop, and is one of my favorites. In an interview, they were asked to describe their genre in sounds and pictures. They said its like: “Sitting on a rooftop on a summer night or going for a midnight drive. Those are some of the visuals that I picture when I picture people listening to our music.”

Frontmen Jonathan and Joey are cousins and both grew up together near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They signed with Interscope Records in 2016, and shortly after dropped their first EP Honest. They have toured with artists like Ke$ha and The All-American Rejects.

Their latest song “Holding On,” came out this month and is charted to be their most popular on Spotify. Most recently they’ve toured with NF, which is where I discovered them.  To read more about the NF tour with Nightly, click here.

Songs to check out first: “Miss You Like Hell,” “No Vacancy” and “Holding On.” In that order. Those are my favorite and have been playing on my Spotify and in my head non-stop. Give them a listen and let me know what you think! I love their vibe and how they capture a crowd entirely during their shows.

I’d love to hear from you! Have you listened to Nightly before? Is there a band or artist I should highlight next? Leave me a comment and let me know.
